Happy Hump Day Reader! We are halfway through the week! I just want to take a quick moment this morning to write about how grateful I am and I hope you will take a moment to count your blessings as well.
A thought came to mind as I was having my bowl of cereal this morning at work and I wanted to share it with you guys.
I’m absolutely freezing right now. Before I got out of my car, the temperature outside was supposedly 39 degrees. We’re almost in Spring and I’m in disbelief it’s still this cold. For So Cal residents, this rain has driven us insane. We’re over it.
But I want to take a step back and humble myself here. We can complain about how cold it is and the rain flooding our streets and creating potholes, etc. but there is population of people who are without homes, warm support, and food to stay nourished.
As I sat here, I was thinking about how cold my hands were despite the fact I have long pants, a sweater, a coat, a scarf, socks, and boots on my feet and I’m thinking, there are people out there, homeless with the bare minimum. Maybe something to cover themselves, just enough, but so thin that of course they’re more cold than we are with the clothes we have on.
Now there are different circumstances for each individual in the homeless population. We don’t know what they’ve been through; actually we don’t know what a lot of people go through. That is why I encourage being kind to others – you don’t know what they’ve seen, been through, or their story.
We do know that we have been blessed to have a roof over our heads and food on the table. Be grateful for that. We’re fortunate. We have more than most of the population in the world have and that makes us “rich.” How you have accepted what you have in life makes you rich.
I have a close relationship to my father, my amazing boyfriend and his family, a great support of friends, a job, a wonderful home, and food. And I feel more rich than ever. It’s just as simple as that. I can’t and won’t imagine having any less but I couldn’t ask for any more.
Take a moment to count your blessings – be grateful for the clothes you have on, the lunch you brought to work today, the friends and coworkers who can give you support when needed, the money to buy a chicken sandwich from Chick Fil A, the ability to get up and walk around at leisure, the home you get to go to after work and watch Netflix, everything. It’s everything that you have that most people in this world are not privileged with or could afford.
With that said, I hope you stay warm today and enjoy every bit of your day.
Until the next post,
With love and support,
