Hey Readers! Happy Sunday! We are only four (4) days from Thanksgiving and I’m excited spend dinner and quality time with Tony and his family. Although my Father will not be in town for Thanksgiving, he will be flying overseas to be with my aunts and grandfather. So at least he’ll be with the family 🙂
This year I plan on baking a dessert dish for Thanksgiving. I am testing out of some recipes I found on Pinterest. Last night, I baked “Apple Pie Bites.” It’s super simple… but of course silly ol’ me forgot to add in the brown sugar. However it must’ve turned out of delicious because I woke up to an empty plate on my counter today 😛 I only ate two (2) last night and Tony ate the rest of them!
I definitely plan on making another batch to include all parts of the recipes as I made an interesting discover. At the end of this post, I will link the recipe from Pinterest for your viewing + the proper measurements and maybe you’d want to give a shot as well.
For this recipe, you’ll need:
A small granny smith apple; apple pie spice, brown sugar, pecans, Phillsbury crescent rolls (original), and butter.
Because I’m watching what I put in food, I have substituted some of those items. Instead of the original crescent, I use the 90 calories crescent rolls and instead of regular butter, I used a plant-based avocado oiled butter instead.
Setting the oven at 375 degrees to preheat, I began prepping. I unrolled the crescent rolls. Thank goodness for precut-out-of-the-tube because who knows if I could’ve properly cut triangular shape rolls 😛 Then I cored the apple and and cut them into bite size slices. Mix all the spices together.
Tell me why, I stood in the spice section for 10 minutes at the grocery store, trying to look for Apple Pie Spice like a ding dong… just to say “fuck it, I’ll just use cinnamon.” I then come to find out that Apple Pie Spice can be made with just cinnamon, nut meg, and all spices! I felt kind of dumb but wonder if anyone would’ve done the same thing as I did. Would you?
I’ll get this in the next batch 😛 Next, mix all the spices including the brown sugar… which brings me to my next ding dong behavior: I forgot to use brown sugar. I just dabbed all cinnamon on the crescent rolls without even thinking to use the brown sugar while it was right there in front of my face. Please don’t make the same mistake as I did.
Next melt the butter and coat the apple slices. Lay one slice per roll; add chopped pecans. Mines were pre-chopped. You don’t have to use the pecans. If you don’t like pecans, I’m sure the bites will come out just fine without them. Roll out them up and place them on a baking sheet. Toss them in the oven for the about 10-12 minutes.
Take them out, let it cool for 3-5 minutes and enjoy!
Let’s just say because my lack of knowledge and preparation, I’m going to have to try this again. The bites came out nice but it was a lot of cinnamon and not enough sugar for my liking. I’ll try baking them again and seeing how they turn out 😛
